High1 Resort, Gangwon Province - The highly anticipated '2025 DangDang Trekking,' Korea's largest pet festival expecting over 10,000 pet owners, is set to take place at High1 Resort this May.
Marking its 5th year, 'DangDang Trekking' is a dog-friendly trekking event held on the scenic Un-tan-godo Sky Trail, a path that was once used to transport coal. The event will be held over two weekends: the first trek from May 17th to 18th, and the second from May 24th to 25th.
Participants and their furry companions will enjoy trekking along the picturesque highland forest trails and take a ride on the Un-tan-godo cable car, a High1 landmark, to the 1,340m High1 Top, where they can immerse themselves in the beauty of the Baekdudaegan mountain range.
The festival will also feature a book concert and photo session with renowned dog trainer Kang Hyung-wook, also known as the "Dog President," and a 'DangDang Free Zone' where dogs can run and play off-leash.
Over 10,000 pet owners and 2,000 dogs from across the country are expected to gather for this event.
This year's 'DangDang Trekking' is a collaborative effort with the nearby Gohan Gugongtan Market, transforming it into a mutually beneficial festival for both the resort and the local community. The Gugongtan Market will host unique programs such as a 'DangDang Contest' to showcase the charm of participating dogs and a 'Gyeon-saeng Four Cuts' instant photo event. Pet-friendly restaurants with a 'DangDang Blue Ribbon' will also offer regional specialties for visitors and their dogs.
Choi Cheol-gyu, Acting CEO of Kangwon Land, stated, "Through DangDang Trekking, High1 will solidify its position as a pet-friendly resort and further develop highland forest tourism content connected to Un-tan-godo. We will continue to organize various sports events and community-driven programs to revitalize the economy of the closed mining areas."
High1 Resort is emerging as a hub for mountain sports tourism, hosting over 16 events throughout the year, including the UTGD Sky Race, Korea's largest trail running competition, and the e-MTB Festival, utilizing the Un-tan-godo Sky Trail.
