According to data released by the Buenos Aires City Statistics Office, the consumer price index (CPI) in Buenos Aires rose by 2.5% in July 2025. This is an increase of 0.4 percentage points from June's 2.1%, marking the highest monthly increase since the 3.5% recorded in March. The cumulative inflation rate for the period from January to July 2025 is 18.1%, while the annual inflation rate over the last 12 months reached 40.9%.

This inflation increase was primarily driven by the restaurant and hotels, transportation, and recreation and culture sectors. In contrast, the clothing and footwear sector was the only one to see a decline, falling by 1.6%, which partially offset the overall inflation rate.

Inflation Rates by Major Categories 

Restaurants and Hotels saw a 5.3% increase, contributing 0.60 percentage points to the overall inflation rate. This was mainly due to price hikes for food sold in restaurants, bars, and other eateries.
Transportation rose by 3.6%. The main reasons were increases in the prices of airline tickets, gasoline, and bus fares.
Recreation and Culture also showed a 3.6% increase, which was primarily influenced by adjustments in travel package prices.
Housing, Water, Electricity, and Gas increased by 2.3%, with rent and housing maintenance costs being the main drivers.
Food and Beverages saw an 1.8% rise. Prices for vegetables, tubers, and legumes increased significantly by 6.9%, while meat and processed meat products rose by 1.2%, and bread and cereals by 1.6%.
 

Economic Outlook and National CPI Announcement 

Ahead of the national CPI announcement for July, private economic analysts project the national inflation rate to be around 2%. The Central Bank's Market Expectations Survey (REM) estimates a 1.8% inflation rate for July. In June, Argentina's national inflation rate was 1.6%, with an annual rate of 39.4%.

Argentina's National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC) is scheduled to officially release the national consumer price index for July on Wednesday, August 13th, at 4 PM. This figure will be compared with the inflation data from Buenos Aires City and will serve as an important indicator of Argentina's overall economic situation.

In July, goods prices in Buenos Aires rose by 1.2%, with a cumulative annual increase of 12.5%. Service prices, on the other hand, increased by 3.3%, reaching a cumulative annual increase of 21.8%. This data indicates that inflationary pressure was higher in the service sector compared to the goods sector.

This statistical report is expected to have a direct impact on the economic lives of Buenos Aires residents. The price increases in the leading sectors of inflation could intensify the burden on household spending.
