BLACKPINK, the iconic K-pop girl group celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, has made history as the first artist worldwide to exceed 100 million subscribers on YouTube. According to YG Entertainment and YouTube, the milestone was reached around 7:31 PM on the 20th.
Opening their channel in June 2016, the group achieved this feat in approximately 9 years and 8 months. BLACKPINK currently reigns as the "Queens of YouTube" with 50 videos surpassing 100 million views, including "DDU-DU DDU-DU" (2.3 billion views) and "Kill This Love" (2.1 billion views). Their cumulative channel views have reached a staggering 41.2 billion. Notably, nine of their videos are in the "1 Billion Views Club."
The recent surge in subscribers is attributed to the anticipation for their upcoming 3rd mini-album, DEADLINE, set for release on the 27th. Following the album announcement, the channel saw an average of 10,000 new subscribers daily.
To commemorate this achievement, YouTube presented the members with the "Red Diamond Creator Award." Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music at Google and YouTube, stated, "BLACKPINK’s journey is truly historic. It proves their unparalleled influence on the global stage and serves as a perfect example of how artists can build a borderless mega-fandom through YouTube."
With the release of DEADLINE, their first group album in 3 years and 5 months, BLACKPINK is poised to set new records once again.
