Tops the Women’s 10m Air Pistol Individual Event… Sets Asian Games Record in Preliminaries Lee Jung-hyun, a Gunsan High School Graduate, Also Claims a Gold Medal in Basketball

Chu Ga-eun of the Imsil County Office shooting team has secured both a gold and a silver medal simultaneously at her very first Asian Games stage.

According to the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Sports Council on the 23rd, Chu claimed the top spot in the final of the women’s 10m air pistol individual event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games shooting venue at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, scoring 246.3 points.

This marks Chu’s first-ever Asian Games gold medal and the very first gold medal for the South Korean shooting team in this tournament.

Moreover, Chu’s final score set a phenomenal new record, surpassing both the previous Asian record (245.3 points) set in 2017 and the Asian Games record (242.1 points) from the 2023 Hangzhou Games. She came within a mere 0.6 points of the world record (246.9 points). She achieved a flawless victory, outpacing the runner-up, Shen Yiyao of China, by a wide margin of 5.0 points.

Earlier in the day, during the individual preliminaries that also served as the team event, she combined forces with Kim Bo-mi (Busan City Hall) and Oh Ye-jin (IBK Bank) to capture the silver medal.

The team event rankings are determined by summing the scores of the top three athletes among each country’s individual preliminary participants. Chu scored 582 points in the preliminaries to set a new Asian Games record, advanced to the individual finals in first place overall, and ultimately went on to seize the gold medal.

Medal news featuring athletes with ties to Jeonbuk continues to pour in. Lee Jung-hyun, a graduate of Gunsan High School, contributed to the South Korean men's national basketball team's capture of the gold medal.

Meanwhile, a total of 56 athletes and officials either active in or hailing from Jeonbuk are participating as members of the South Korean national delegation in this Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
