The Cheonan Culture Foundation (CEO Ahn Dong-soon) announced on April 17th that the Cheonan Museum of Art has been selected for government-funded projects, securing 132 million KRW.
The museum will receive 100 million KRW from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's '2025 Regional Exhibition Activation Project' and 32 million KRW from the Chungnam Culture & Tourism Foundation's 'Cultural Art Educator Field Competency Strengthening Project.'
The 'Regional Exhibition Activation Project' aims to expand citizens' opportunities to enjoy art and is a nationwide competition. The Cheonan Museum of Art is the only institution in Chungnam to be selected. As part of this project, the museum will host the Gwangju Biennale Canadian Pavilion exhibition, 'Home and Other Places,' co-organized with the Ieangha Museum and the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, from September to October. This will include various creative workshops and artist talks.
Home and Other Places: This exhibition, also shown at the Yangnim Museum of Art, features a collaboration between Inuit artists from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, and Korean artists. The exhibition explores themes of home, displacement, and cultural exchange. The West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, established in 1959, plays a significant role in promoting Inuit art.
Participating Artists: The exhibition includes work by artists such as Saimaiyu Akesuk, Shuvinai Ashoona, and Qavavau Manumie.
The 'Cultural Art Educator Field Competency Strengthening Project' aims to cultivate professional cultural art educators and provide unique art education programs utilizing local resources and facilities. The Cheonan Museum of Art plans to hire one cultural art educator to operate appreciation and experience-based education programs.
Choi Kyung-hyun, Director of the Cheonan Museum of Art, stated, "To create a high-quality cultural city, we will expand artistic creation exchanges with domestic and international artists and actively promote diverse exhibitions and educational programs."
