The Buyeo-gun Chungnam Gugak Troupe (Director Lee Yong-woo), which will deliver the beauty and excitement of Korean traditional music (gugak), will raise the grand curtain for its 69th regular concert, “Go-un Pung-ryu (古韻風流),” at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 7, at the Sabimaru Performance Hall of the National Buyeo Museum.
This regular concert is composed of a diverse program that preserves the identity of folk gugak while combining popular appeal and artistry, promising an unforgettable feast of traditional music for Chungcheongnam-do residents and visitors alike. Spanning a total of 70 minutes, the performance fully captures the unique colors of the Buyeo-gun Chungnam Gugak Troupe, ranging from traditional music to creative stages.
The concert opens with "A Baekje Person's Smile, the Fragrance of the Five Musicians," themed after the five musicians of Baekje. This is followed by "Yeongnam Seongju-puri," which prays for peace within the household. Jo Gap-yong, a master designated as a transmission educator of Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak (farmers' music), will make a special appearance on this stage to add melodic rhythms and cheerful beats.
Particularly noteworthy stages are "Baekje Horizontal Flute (Sujecheon)" and "Sanyuhwaga." "Baekje Horizontal Flute" illuminates the roots of Baekje art by performing Sujecheon, Korea's representative royal court music, using a replicated Baekje-era instrument excavated from the Gwanbuk-ri ruins in Buyeo. In addition, "Sanyuhwaga," a representative indigenous folk song of Buyeo designated as a cultural asset in 1982, has been staged and reorganized so that the audience can breathe and enjoy together with the old farming songs, featuring activities like rice planting and butterfly-like choreography.
In addition to these, "Dance of Go-un Pung-ryu," featuring hourglass-drum dances (janggu-chum) and small-gong dances (sogo-chum) that highlight the warmth and excitement of spring, and "Pan-nori (Pan-gut)," where percussionists showcase their brilliant skills and play joyfully, are expected to captivate the audience's eyes and ears.
Buyeo-gun Chungnam Gugak Troupe Director Lee Yong-woo (Mayor of Buyeo County) stated, "Through this regular concert, we aim to provide opportunities to enjoy excellent traditional performances and expand the base of gugak," adding, "We ask for the great interest and participation of many people in this stage where the history of Baekje and folk gugak harmonize."
Admission for this concert is 2,000 KRW for all seats. Ticketing is available from Monday, October 26, to Friday, November 6, online via "Yes24 Ticket" and by phone (☎ 041-832-5765). On-site ticket sales will also be available on the day of the performance for remaining seats only.
