LOS ANGELES — In a surprising revelation that has captured public attention, acclaimed Hollywood actress Michelle Williams, 44, has publicly disclosed that her youngest child was born via a surrogate. The news came during an appearance on the late-night television show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" where she spoke about her family life for the first time.
Appearing on the show with guest host Tiffany Haddish, Williams was complimented on her appearance. When Haddish remarked that she looked as if she had "never had a child," Williams responded, "I have to give a big thank you to Kristen. This last baby did not come through my body." She went on to call her "the miracle of our little daughter" and addressed the woman she presumes to be her surrogate directly, saying, "Kristen, thank you. You might be watching this now."
Williams's remarks mark the first time she has spoken publicly about her experience with surrogacy.
The actress is a mother of four. Her eldest daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger, now 19, was born from her relationship with the late actor Heath Ledger, whom she met while filming "Brokeback Mountain" in 2005. She and her current husband, Thomas Kail, have three young children, born in 2020, 2022, and 2025.
During the interview, Williams also candidly discussed the challenges of raising her young family. With three children under the age of five at home, she admitted to struggling with finding a work-life balance. "A lot of people talk about self-care, and I just wonder when it's possible. Because I'm a working mom," she explained. "I already feel guilty, and I don't want to take any more time away from them, but at the same time, I know that I need to recharge my energy."
Williams then revealed her unconventional method for finding time to herself: visiting a Social Security Administration office. With a laugh, she said, "They will make you wait in complete silence for at least an hour," a comment that drew empathetic laughter from the audience.
