Seoul, South Korea – The Hanwha Eagles have made a significant splash in the KBO free agency market, signing infielder Sim Woo-jun to a four-year contract worth up to 50 billion won. The deal, which was announced on November 7th, is the third largest free agent signing this offseason and the first involving a player changing teams.

Sim, who was originally drafted by the KT Wiz in 2014, has spent his entire professional career with the team. In 1,072 games, he has posted a .254 batting average with 31 home runs, 156 stolen bases, and an OPS of .639. His speed and defensive ability make him a valuable addition to the Eagles' lineup.

"Sim Woo-jun is a player with the ability to become a cornerstone of our infield defense," said Hanwha general manager Son Hyeok. "We believe he will be a great fit for our team."

Sim expressed his excitement about joining the Eagles and playing in front of their passionate fans. "I've always wanted to be in the starting lineup for the opening game at our new stadium, and I'm eager to experience the energy of our fans," Sim said. "I'm looking forward to working with manager Kim Kyung-mun and learning from him."

The Hanwha Eagles are aiming to make a deep playoff run in their first season at their new ballpark. The team has been very active in free agency this offseason, having previously signed players like Cha Eun-sung, An Chi-hong, and Ryu Hyun-jin.

With the signing of Sim Woo-jun, the Eagles have significantly strengthened their lineup. However, they are not done yet. The team is reportedly interested in adding pitching depth and could make additional moves before the start of the 2025 season.

"We are still open to adding more players," said general manager Son. "We want to build a team that is capable of competing for a championship."
