In a significant development set to reshape the American political landscape, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the formation of a new political entity, the "America Party," on July 5, local time. The declaration, made via the social media platform X, positions the nascent party as a counter to both President Donald Trump and the Democratic Party, signifying a dramatic shift in Musk's political allegiances.

Musk’s announcement follows a period of intensifying public acrimony with President Trump, a stark contrast to their previously perceived alliance. The discord began escalating last month when Musk, who had reportedly stepped down from his "special government employee" role in the Trump administration, vehemently criticized the administration's proposed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," a sweeping tax and spending bill. Musk denounced the legislation as a "disgusting abomination" that would significantly increase the federal deficit and burden Americans with debt. The bill, which includes substantial tax breaks and increased defense spending, recently passed the Senate and aims to raise the national debt limit by $5 trillion.

The feud intensified further with Musk’s unverified public accusations on June 5, linking President Trump to the sealed files of deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump, in response, retaliated by questioning Musk’s mental state and raising the possibility of Musk's alleged drug use. He also threatened to review and potentially revoke federal contracts with Musk's companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, suggesting that the "Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)," which Musk once headed, might "devour" him.
