Harvesting Crops through Farming Volunteer Work and Delivering Them to a Local Children's Center
The Daejeon Agricultural Technology Center (Director Lee Hyo-sook) held the "Daejeon Youth 4-H and Student 4-H Regional Co-Prosperity Pumasi" event on the 24th at a Youth 4-H farm located in Gyesan-dong, Yuseong-gu.
The Pumasi (traditional Korean cooperative labor sharing) event brought together about 50 participants, including Daejeon Youth 4-H and Student 4-H members and supervising teachers. It was organized to help ease the labor burdens of young farmers while allowing youth to experience firsthand farm work, learn the precious value of agriculture, and connect it with sharing within the local community.
On this day, participants engaged in harvesting pears and corn at young farmers' orchards and fields. They experienced the vibrant agricultural field firsthand by participating together throughout the entire process of harvesting, packaging, and transporting the ripened crops.
After finishing the volunteer activities, the participants produced a video message containing messages of encouragement for local children and delivered about 20 kg of self-harvested corn to the "Totigrang Local Children's Center" in Songgang-dong, Yuseong-gu, sharing warmth and care.
This activity left a significant meaning in that it went beyond simple volunteer work; youths and teenagers cooperated through agriculture to share the fruits of their direct labor with children in the local community.
Lee Hyo-sook, Director of the Daejeon Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "It is deeply meaningful to be able to share the fruits of the sweat and hard work of our students and young farmers with local children. Moving forward, we will continue to expand diverse programs that promote the value of agriculture and foster co-prosperity with the local community."
Meanwhile, the Daejeon Metropolitan City 4-H Association promotes farming volunteer work, project activities, and training based on the 4-H ideals of Head, Heart, Hands, and Health, helping youth and young farmers learn the value of agriculture and rural areas and contribute to the development of the local community.
