On July 2 (Wednesday), Ulsan City held the 'Ulsan People Communicate - Ulsan Women Talk Talk' event at the main hall on the 2nd floor of the City Hall, where Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-kyum directly communicated with approximately 30 women, including those from multi-child and multicultural families, as well as childcare center workers. This event was organized to reflect the vivid voices of citizens in city administration, starting with a string performance by the Ulsan City Arts Company, followed by a video diary showing a day in a daycare center, and a Q&A session with attendees.
During the event, a wide range of daily life issues were discussed, including women's employment, expansion of childcare support, settlement support for multicultural families, and enhanced benefits for multi-child families. Mayor Kim Doo-kyum directly answered each question, thoroughly explaining Ulsan City's currently promoted policies and future plans.
In particular, Ulsan City is making diverse efforts to promote women's economic independence and social participation. It operates education and vocational skill development programs for women's employment and entrepreneurship, and has established a 'Women's Employment and Entrepreneurship Support Zone' to introduce a special guarantee system that reduces the initial burden of starting a business. Furthermore, in September, a 'Women's Job Fair' will be held to provide practical employment opportunities for women, aiming to create approximately 4,200 women's jobs. Efforts are also being made to prevent violence by expanding support for women-friendly corporate environment improvement and establishing an 'Ulsan a Safe City for Women' through emergency housing support for victims of stalking and dating violence, and operating specialized counseling centers for digital sexual crimes.
In the childcare sector, Ulsan City plans to alleviate the economic burden on parenting families by supporting parents' share of kindergarten expenses starting this September. In addition, various childcare fee and parenting allowance support policies are being implemented, such as monthly parental benefits of 1 million won for infants aged 0 and 500,000 won for infants aged 1.
Support for the stable settlement of multicultural families will also be strengthened. Vocational training programs for marriage immigrants, language development support for their children, and parenting education are provided through family centers under Ulsan City, and the Danuri Call Center operates to offer living consultations and cultural exchange in 16 languages.
For multi-child families, the 'Ulsan Multi-child Love Card' provides extensive benefits, including discounts on public parking fees, water and sewage fees, automobile acquisition tax and inspection fees, and electricity and city gas fees. Efforts are also being made to reduce education expenses for multi-child family students by supporting school trip fees, school uniform fees, early childhood education fees, and free after-school program vouchers.
Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-kyum stated, "Through the vivid voices of women, I have once again reflected on the direction the city administration should take," adding, "We will faithfully reflect this in policies to realize Ulsan-like care and Ulsan-like life." Ulsan City plans to continuously strengthen field-oriented, customized policies so that the diverse lives and demands of women can be naturally reflected throughout city administration, using this 'Women Talk Talk' event as a stepping stone.
