The Busan Tourism Organization (President Lee Jeong-sil, hereinafter referred to as the "Organization") announced on the 5th that Busan was selected as the 'Best Culinary Destination' at the 'TripZilla Excellence Awards 2026' announced on the 2nd by TripZilla, a major Southeast Asian travel media outlet.
With this award, Busan has achieved the honor of winning for the second consecutive year, following its selection in the 'Best City Destination' category last year. In particular, this year holds significant meaning as Busan's unique food culture and gastronomic tourism resources garnered attention, recognized for their competitiveness in the culinary tourism sector alongside marine tourism.
TripZilla is a major online travel media outlet reaching over 20 million travelers monthly. Now in its 12th year, the 'TripZilla Excellence Awards' is an annual awards event that selects outstanding tourism brands and destinations across various fields, including travel agencies, hotels, tourist attractions, and tourism destinations.
TripZilla highlighted Busan's vibrant fish markets, alley restaurants, and diverse street food as the charm of its culinary tourism. In particular, it noted that Busan's food culture is closely connected to the lives of local residents, traditional markets, and the history of a maritime city.
Recently, Busan has been receiving successive spotlights from the global travel industry. Following its selection as the only South Korean city in Expedia's 'Destinations of the Year 2027' announced in October, Busan has proven its competitiveness not only in overall urban tourism appeal but also in the culinary tourism sector through this TripZilla award.
The Organization plans to utilize TripZilla's online promotion channels to raise awareness of Busan's culinary tourism and promote the expansion of tourist attraction through future cooperation with the global travel industry.
Lee Jeong-sil, President of the Busan Tourism Organization, stated, "This award is the result of Busan's food being recognized as a differentiated tourism resource that goes beyond simple food to allow visitors to experience the region's history, culture, and lifestyle," adding, "We will continue to actively discover and promote Busan's unique culinary tourism contents, leading to the attraction of global tourists and the expansion of local tourism consumption."
