Incheon, South Korea – LG Uplus announced today that it will construct a wireless network to provide real-time traffic signal information in Incheon. This new network will significantly enhance traffic management and driver convenience in the city.

Previously, traffic signal information collected from traffic signal controllers was transmitted to the Incheon Traffic Information Center via a single line. However, LG Uplus' new network will utilize multiple lines to simultaneously send traffic signal data to both the city's traffic information center and the Korea Road Traffic Corporation.

The Korea Road Traffic Corporation plans to share this data with navigation companies, enabling drivers to check the remaining time of traffic signals in real-time. By knowing exactly when the light will change, drivers can optimize their speed and reduce the risk of accidents.

Incheon's traffic information center will also establish a new control system that allows remote monitoring of the wireless communication status. This proactive approach will enable the center to address any issues before they impact drivers.

LG Uplus aims to install its wireless network on over 2,400 traffic signal controllers by the first quarter of next year. After a thorough testing phase, the network is expected to be fully operational in the first half of 2025.

The company believes that this new infrastructure will accelerate the advent of fully autonomous vehicles. By receiving real-time traffic signal information, self-driving cars can navigate more safely and efficiently without relying on visual recognition of traffic lights.
