Reinterpreting Jinan’s old lifestyle, culture, and folkways through various crafts such as ceramics and woodworking
The Jeonbuk State Culture and Tourism Foundation (CEO Baek Ok-sun, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) announced that the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop Promotion Association, selected for the Foundation's "2026 Creative Space Revitalization Support Project," will hold a special exhibition titled "Place to Roam: Memories of Jinan, Blossoming through Craft" from November 7 to December 6 at the main exhibition hall of the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop.
This exhibition reinterprets the old lifestyle, culture, and folkways of Jinan's mountain villages through craft, connecting local memories to creative activities and introducing Jinan's lifestyle and culture to residents and visitors.
Eight resident artists of the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop will showcase works in various fields, including ceramics, woodworking, calligraphy/wood carving, bead craft, leather craft, design, onggi (traditional Korean earthenware), and geumnigeumbak (gold leaf application). The artists explore memories embedded in everyday objects using materials such as forgotten household tools and traditional folkways, expressing them through their respective craft techniques.
The Jinan Creative Craft Workshop, where the exhibition is held, is a space utilizing the former Jinan Seo Elementary School and serves as a hub for local artists' creative activities. This exhibition is meaningful in that it presents creative outcomes in a closed school that was once a foundation of learning and shares local cultural resources with the residents.
A representative of the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop Promotion Association stated, "This exhibition is an occasion where memories contained in Jinan's old lifestyle and folkways are reexamined through the perspectives of eight resident artists and expressed through craft. We hope visitors can recall Jinan's past through the works and witness how local lifestyle and culture continue into contemporary craft."
CEO Baek Ok-sun remarked, "Local creative spaces serve as an important foundation that supports artists' creative activities and newly discovers the unique cultural resources of a region. We will continue to support artists and residents in interacting centered around creative spaces, allowing local memories and culture to lead to diverse art activities."
Meanwhile, the "Creative Space Revitalization Support Project" is an initiative designed to vitalize artists' creation and exchanges based on local creative spaces and to enable provincial residents to experience diverse culture and arts across various parts of the region.
The exhibition opening ceremony will be held at 4 PM on November 7 at the main exhibition hall of the Jinan Creative Craft Workshop (510-5 Jinmu-ro, Jinan-eup).
