Wonkwang Digital University (President Kim Yoon-chul) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Yeongdeungpo-gu Office, Seoul (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) on the 30th of last month to expand educational opportunities for multicultural residents and foster co-prosperity in the local community. This agreement aims to improve the quality of life for all local residents, including multicultural residents in Yeongdeungpo-gu, and to realize a local community where both Koreans and foreigners coexist harmoniously.
The signing ceremony, held in the Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor's office, was attended by President Kim Yoon-chul, Mayor Choi Ho-kwon, and key officials from both organizations, solidifying their commitment to cooperation. Through this agreement, both organizations plan to collaborate closely in various areas, including education to enhance the capabilities of multicultural residents, joint development of customized local educational content, and the dissemination of achievements and external promotion. In particular, they plan to establish a practical community-based educational cooperation model by linking Wonkwang Digital University's excellent online educational capabilities with Yeongdeungpo-gu Office's administrative resources.
Wonkwang Digital University was already selected as the operating institution for the Yeongdeungpo 50 Plus Center and Yeouido Senior Welfare Center in October of last year. Through this, it has expanded its community contribution activities, such as educational support projects and program development for multicultural families and middle-aged people. Based on these prior experiences, the effectiveness of this agreement is expected to be enhanced.
President Kim Yoon-chul emphasized that this agreement is "an important example of the university fulfilling its social responsibility to grow with the community." He further stated, "Moving forward, we will continue to co-design and implement educational services needed by the local community, positioning ourselves as a lifelong education platform that grows together with the region." This agreement is attracting attention as an exemplary model that supports the inclusive growth of a multicultural society through the collaboration between the university's social role and local administration.
