Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced that "The World," an ultra-luxury residential cruise ship carrying approximately 500 passengers and crew members, will make its very first port call at Sokcho Port.
Marking the fourth cruise ship to visit Sokcho Port this year, the arrival of "The World" holds profound significance as it is the first-ever visit by a luxury residential cruise to the port. The vessel is scheduled to dock at Sokcho Port at 9:00 AM on September 15, marking the port's very first overnight cruise stay spanning three days and two nights.
To commemorate this historic maiden voyage, the provincial government will host a special welcoming ceremony. Various tourist convenience services, including traditional Korean cultural experiences, professional tourist guidance, and dedicated shuttle buses, will be provided to pamper the passengers and crew.
Throughout their three-day and two-night stay, the elite passengers and crew members are set to explore prominent regional attractions across Gangwon Province. Their itinerary features culturally rich and scenic destinations such as Sokcho Jungang Market, Abai Village, the Goseong DMZ Museum, Naksan Temple in Yangyang, and the vibrant Gangneung Coffee Street.
Governor Kim Jin-tae emphasized the strategic vision behind the event, stating, "We will continue to expand our efforts to attract long-term, high-value-added cruise tourists. By integrating Gangwon's unique and distinctive tourism contents, we aim to build a thriving cruise economy that delivers tangible, practical benefits to our local communities."
Operating as a floating luxury community, "The World" is globally renowned as the largest privately owned residential yacht on earth, where wealthy residents own individual luxury apartments onboard and vote collectively on the ship's global travel itineraries. This unprecedented visit is expected to elevate Sokcho Port's status as a premier international cruise hub capable of accommodating ultra-exclusive, long-stay maritime tourism.
