Naples, Florida – The LPGA Tour is set to conclude its season with a bang, as the CME Group Tour Championship offers a record-breaking prize purse of $11 million. The tournament, taking place at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida, will feature the top 60 players on the CME Globe points list competing for a first-place prize of $4 million, the largest single-tournament payout in women's golf history.
A Record-Breaking Year
The $4 million winner's check surpasses the $2.5 million won by Yuka Saso at this year's U.S. Women's Open. Additionally, the total prize purse of $11 million is the largest in LPGA Tour history. Nelly Korda, who has already earned $4,164,430 this season, could potentially double her earnings with a victory. Even the 60th-ranked player in the CME Globe is guaranteed a minimum of $55,000.
A Battle for the Title
Several top players are vying for the championship title, including:
Hye-Jin Choi: The South Korean golfer is looking to defend her title and capture her second victory of the season.
Nelly Korda: The American star is aiming for her third victory of the year and a chance to surpass $8 million in season earnings.
Lydia Ko: The New Zealander is looking to add a third CME Group Tour Championship title to her resume.
Lexi Thompson: The American golfer will be competing in her final LPGA Tour event before retirement.
A Strong Korean Contingent
South Korean players have a strong history in this tournament, with five victories since its inception. This year, 11 Korean golfers are in the field, including Hae-Ran Ryu, Sei Young Kim, and Jin Young Ko, all of whom are aiming for a top finish.
A Celebration of Women's Golf
The CME Group Tour Championship is not only a competition but also a celebration of women's golf. The tournament's increased prize money reflects the growing popularity of the sport and the significant contributions of women golfers.
