Singapore – Thousands of users worldwide experienced disruptions to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, on March 10, 2025. Frustrations mounted in numerous regions, including Singapore, as users reported widespread access issues.
According to Downdetector, an outage tracking website, Singapore alone saw over 1,000 outage reports by 10:10 PM local time. The peak of reported problems occurred just before 6:00 PM, with 1,277 reports, followed by a decline and then another surge around 9:40 PM.
The disruptions were not limited to Singapore, as significant outages were also reported in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other regions. In the U.S., over 21,000 outage reports were filed, while the U.K. saw 10,800 reports, indicating a global impact on X users.
This widespread outage caused considerable inconvenience for users and amplified concerns about the stability of the X platform. As of now, X has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or any solutions.
To add some supplemental information, social media platforms can experience outages for a variety of reasons, including:
Server Overload: A sudden surge in user activity can overwhelm a platform's servers, leading to slowdowns or crashes.
Cyberattacks: Malicious actors may launch cyberattacks, such as distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, to disrupt a platform's services.
Software Glitches: Bugs or errors in a platform's software can cause unexpected outages.
Maintenance Issues: Planned or unplanned maintenance work can sometimes result in temporary disruptions.
It is important to note that until X releases an official statement, the exact cause of this outage remains unknown.
