A female excavator operator in China is drawing significant attention for earning a living with a pink excavator decorated with Hello Kitty characters. Nicknamed the "Excavator Queen," she reportedly came up with this idea to find happiness amidst the reality of spending all day at dusty construction sites.
According to a recent report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), Ms. Zhang (35), from Heze in Northern China’s Shandong Province, has been operating excavators since 2019. Whenever her equipment appears at a construction site, it becomes the center of attention. Not only is it rare to see a female operator, but the entire excavator is painted a vivid pink and decorated with cute Hello Kitty characters and ribbons.
"Even though I work in a rugged environment, I still have the sensibilities of a girl who loves pink," Zhang said. She explained her motivation, saying, "Anyone in this field knows that once you arrive at a site, you have to sit there for at least 8 to 9 hours. It is incredibly tedious and monotonous. Facing cold machinery and dusty sites every day is exhausting, so I decorated my excavator to make myself happy. When I drive this machine, my mood completely changes."
Interestingly, Zhang did not initially start this career by choice. She joked, "I was 'tricked' by my husband into doing this for a living. In return for my husband's handsome looks, I take care of all the housework and professional labor. This way, he can live without a single worry."
As her "Pink Excavator" went viral, Zhang has become a social media celebrity with over 23,000 followers, proving that even the toughest jobs can be done with a touch of personal flair.
