MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines, fresh off hosting the 2025 FIVB Men's World Championship, has secured the rights to host the prestigious 2029 FIVB Women's World Championship. The historic announcement, confirmed by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) on September 29, 2025, solidifies the nation's growing reputation as a major global hub for volleyball.

The decision was publicly unveiled by FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and Brazilian volleyball legend Leila Barros on the eve of the Men's World Championship final between Italy and Bulgaria. This move marks a remarkable back-to-back hosting commitment from the Philippines, having hosted the men's global event just four years prior.

For the Asian continent, the 2029 women's tournament is also significant. Following Thailand's hosting of the women's event in 2025, the Philippines will continue the tradition of bringing this major championship to Asia for two consecutive editions. Historically, Asian hosting of the Women's World Championship has been rare, with Japan having hosted five times (1967, 1998, 2006, 2010, 2018) and China once (1990). The Philippines now joins this elite group, underscoring the regional momentum of the sport.

A New Chapter for Philippine Volleyball 

The selection of the Philippines as the 2029 host highlights the country's passionate fan base and organizational capability, which was demonstrated during the successful staging of the 2025 Men's World Championship.

Although the Philippine men's team, participating as the host nation in 2025, did not advance past the preliminary round—finishing third in Pool A with a 1-2 record—the focus now shifts to the women's national team. Currently ranked 46th in the FIVB world rankings, slightly lower than South Korea's 40th, the host status guarantees the Philippine women's national team a spot in the world's premier women's volleyball competition.
