LOS ANGELES – The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has officially confirmed the program for the Los Angeles 2026 Global Esports Games, marking a major step forward for the highly anticipated event. The announcement followed the 16th GEF Board Meeting, where new leadership was also formally established, and strategic plans for the United States were approved.
The Los Angeles 2026 Global Esports Games, scheduled for December 2026, will be a flagship event for the GEF in the United States. Los Angeles was previously named the host city at a ceremony attended by notable figures, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, Executive Chairman & CEO of the Los Angeles Times Media Group. This latest confirmation solidifies the event's place on the international esports calendar and highlights the GEF's growing presence.
A significant outcome of the board meeting was the unanimous election of Paul J. Foster as President of the Global Esports Federation. Foster, who had been serving as President ad interim since July, will now hold the titles of President & CEO through December 2027. His permanent appointment signals a new chapter for the organization as it focuses on global growth and strengthening the esports ecosystem.
In a statement, Foster expressed his gratitude and vision for the future. “I’m honored to be elected President of the Global Esports Federation at today’s Board Meeting,” he said. "Together with our Member Federations and partners, we will champion inclusion, innovation, and sustainability—empowering athletes, embracing digital transformation, and strengthening the global credibility and prestige of esports for generations to come."
In addition to the leadership change, the GEF Board also approved a strategic framework to develop the esports ecosystem specifically within the United States, with Los Angeles serving as a key hub. This initiative aims to deepen the GEF's connections with global stakeholders and advance its mission of elevating esports for everyone, from casual players to professional athletes.
The decisions made at the 16th Board Meeting underscore the GEF's commitment to its role as a unifying platform. By bringing together athletes, game publishers, member federations, and various partners, the organization continues to shape the future of competitive gaming on a global scale. The approval of the Los Angeles 2026 program, the new leadership, and the U.S. development plan all contribute to a comprehensive strategy designed to enhance the credibility and reach of esports worldwide.
