The Public Culture Exchange Committee (Co-Chaired by Park Jin-young and Choi Hwi-young), which reports directly to the President, appointed five experts leading the global popular culture industry as special committee members on the 29th. The term for these members is two years from the date of appointment.
The newly appointed special members are: Michael Rapino (Chairman of Live Nation), Monte Lipman (Chairman of Republic Records), Shunsuke Muramatsu (Chairman of Sony Music Entertainment Japan), Jay Penske (Chairman and CEO of Penske Media Corporation), and Fred Davis (Partner at Raine Group and Global Co-Head of Music). As leaders in the global music, media, performance, and investment sectors, they will provide policy consultation on global market entry and international cooperation strategies for Korean popular culture.
At the appointment ceremony, Chairman Park Jin-young presented the special members with custom-made drum-shaped appointment plaques featuring "Hojakdo" patterns. The plaques represent the global spread of K-Culture and Korean aesthetic beauty through the imagery of a drum, symbolizing resonance, and the Hojakdo (a traditional painting of a tiger and a magpie) which embodies humor and wit.
Chairman Park Jin-young stated, "I am sincerely grateful that the practical leaders of the global entertainment industry have joined us to institutionalize this precious opportunity for K-pop, ensuring larger and more sustainable growth. We will do our best to help K-pop grow into a platform where people around the world can communicate and become closer."
