ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – Four consortia have entered a fierce bidding competition for the construction and maintenance project of a new general hospital in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. The Paraguayan Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced this on Wednesday (local time), signaling that the long-awaited expansion of healthcare infrastructure for Asunción's citizens is becoming a reality.

This project is expected to be a crucial piece of infrastructure that will elevate Paraguay's healthcare service level. In particular, as it is being carried out with financial support from the Taiwanese government, it will serve as an important milestone symbolizing the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

 Bidding Consortia and Proposed Prices 

According to the MOPC, the four consortia participating in this bid are as follows:

Consorcio Yvaga: Composed of TR Construcciones SA and Aponte Latorre SA.
Consorcio Hospitalario Asunceno: Composed of Ricardo Díaz Martínez, Constructora Heiseke SA, and Sociedad Constructora Chaco SA.
Consorcio GHA: Composed of Constructora Isacio Vallejo SA, MM Sociedad Anónima, and Benito Roggio e Hijos SA.
Consorcio Salud Asunción: Composed of Tecnoedil SA. Constructora, Tocsa SA, and Ascenta SA.
The submitted economic proposals reportedly range from a minimum of G. 386,900,000,000 (approximately 76.8 billion KRW) to a maximum of G. 495,384,615,984 (approximately 98.3 billion KRW). These proposals are currently under review by an evaluation committee, and the final successful bidder will be selected after technical and economic assessments.

 'Gran Hospital de Asunción' to Usher in a New Era for Paraguayan Healthcare 

The new Asunción General Hospital, named 'Gran Hospital de Asunción,' will be constructed on the 5-hectare (approximately 15,000 pyeong) former Ex Capitán Bozzano site in the Tacumbú district, within the Costanera Sur area. This site was transferred from the Municipality of Asunción to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPyBS).

The total investment is estimated at $46 million (approximately 64 billion KRW), which will be covered by financial support from the Taiwanese government. This large-scale facility, with a total floor area of 38,000 square meters, is expected to serve as a major medical hub for Asunción. It will replace the current Barrio Obrero Hospital while providing high-quality healthcare services to Asunción's citizens through a larger and more modern facility.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Comprehensive Medical Services 

The new hospital will feature a total of 334 beds, including both general wards and intensive care units. A wide range of clinics and services will be offered, such as outpatient clinics, operating rooms, emergency rooms, obstetrics and gynecology, dialysis units, pharmacies, laboratories, diagnostic imaging, anatomical pathology, transfusion medicine, and a morgue.

Additionally, extensive ancillary facilities will be enhanced for the convenience of patients and medical staff. Plans include a kitchen, laundry, accommodation, separate parking spaces, and green areas. The hospital will also be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like its own oxygen generation plant, wastewater treatment plant, and a helipad, ensuring the ability to respond swiftly to disaster situations. This comprehensive infrastructure development will provide patients with an optimal treatment environment and create an efficient working environment for medical personnel.

The new Asunción General Hospital is considered a strategic project that will significantly contribute to the modernization of Paraguay's healthcare system and the improvement of public health. Through this bidding process, it is hoped that a transparent and fair evaluation will lead to the prompt realization of the promised high-quality healthcare services for the citizens of Asunción.
