Against the backdrop of the blue sea of Anmyeondo, Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, a special journey has begun to heal the bodies and minds of modern people through the vitality of nature. Under the theme "Healthy Future Found in Nature," the '2026 Taean International Horticulture and Healing Expo' held a grand opening ceremony at Kkotji Ocean Park on the 25th, embarking on a 30-day journey.
This expo is drawing global attention as the world's first international event to combine horticulture with healing, moving beyond a simple flower exhibition. Building on the success of the International Flower Expos held in 2002 and 2009, Chungcheongnam-do aims to present a new industrial paradigm: shifting from "flowers for viewing" to "horticulture for healing humans."
The venue consists of diverse exhibition halls where visitors can experience the value of horticultural therapy from various perspectives. The most eye-catching area is the 'Special Pavilion,' a large-scale media art hall. Comprising six themed spaces, it offers a unique artistic world where cutting-edge technology meets horticulture, featuring "My Own Flower Mapping" using AI live sketches and audio interactions that communicate through flowers and sound.
The 'Healing Agriculture Pavilion' showcases the essence of Chungnam-style healing agriculture. It provides specialized healing services for all generations, including Virtual Reality (VR) experiences, emotional connection through animals, and customized horticultural programs for different life stages. In particular, professional counseling services using precision analysis equipment are receiving great responses by providing practical psychological stability to visitors.
The 'Industrial & Chungnam Smart Agriculture Pavilion' is also noteworthy for presenting a blueprint for the future of agriculture. Visitors can witness advanced horticultural technologies led by Chungnam, such as strawberry up-down cultivation systems and greenhouse robots. This suggests the potential for horticultural healing to evolve into a high-value-added industry beyond mere leisure.
Fitting its reputation as a global expo, the 'International Exchange Pavilion' showcases the unique garden cultures of 16 countries, including the Netherlands, the USA, and Italy. Based on the concept of "Flower Fairytale Gardens," each country’s flowers and gardens are reinterpreted with fairytale imagination, making visitors feel like protagonists in a story.
The outdoor spaces are equally well-curated. Along with the 'Outdoor Garden' that awakens the five senses, there is 'My Own Healing Garden,' which uses the world's first AI emotion measurement technology to suggest gardens tailored to an individual’s state, and the 'World Designer Gardens' reflecting the philosophies of world-renowned artists. Notably, "Kkotjam Garden," featuring emotional illustrations by artist Lee Sulo, is gaining popularity as a must-visit photo zone for young people.
Beyond exhibitions, the expo offers plenty of entertainment. Programs include the 'KidZania GO' career experience for children, as well as permanent stages for traditional Korean music, plays, and band performances. Audience-participation events, such as healing cooking shows with star chefs and healing song festivals, will continue throughout the expo.
In his opening remarks, Governor Kim Tae-heum of Chungcheongnam-do emphasized, "This expo will serve as a milestone opening a new path for horticultural healing as the world's first global event to combine flowers and healing." He added, "With 132 horticultural companies from 40 countries participating, we will use this event to foster Taean as the hub of Korea's horticultural healing industry and a new engine for regional development."
Filled with the scent of nature and the touch of healing, the 2026 Taean International Horticulture and Healing Expo will welcome visitors until late May, providing warm comfort and a chance to recharge for those exhausted by daily life.
