Nepalese authorities and others announced that rescue teams rescued two surviving employees from a hydroelectric power plant tunnel on the 4th (local time), 9 days after the massive flood occurred in Nepal.

During search operations in a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric power plant in Bagmati Province, central-northern Nepal, the Nepalese military and others rescued two living Nepalese employees and transported them to a hospital. A video captured the moment when a dozen rescue workers pulled the men out from a narrow hole and cheered by clapping hands with one another.

This massive flood began on the 26th of last month when a glacier mass measuring about 900 meters wide broke off from a mountain and poured down into a river valley about 1,200 meters below. Muddy water that hardened like cement engulfed villages and hydroelectric power plants along river basins such as the Trishuli River, claiming the lives of over 1,200 people in Nepal alone. Initial tallies indicated that the death toll exceeded 1,000 when including the neighboring Tibet region of China.

Nepalese Prime Balen Shah stated that nearly 300 people had been rescued from hydroelectric power plants by last weekend. The vast majority of them were reportedly rescued intensively over the weekend from the Upper Trishuli-1 power plant.
