Ahead of the Chuseok holiday and the World Korean Business Convention, Incheon City is launching a campaign targeting Incheon International Airport users to prevent luggage carrier fall accidents on escalators.
The city announced on the 23rd that it will hold a citizen-participation campaign titled "Incheon, a Safe City for Travel" at the Airport Railroad Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 Station from the 24th to the 30th.
This campaign was designed to prevent safety accidents within the airport, as the number of domestic and foreign visitors is expected to surge due to the Chuseok holiday (24th–27th) and the 24th World Korean Business Convention (28th–30th) to be held in Incheon.
In particular, the city introduced a "nudge" strategy, which uses design to induce behavioral changes rather than simply providing formal safety guidelines to users.
First, designs instructing users to place their carriers in front of their feet were engraved on the upward escalators heading from the basement to the ground level at the Airport Terminal 2 Station.
Conversely, safety instructions guiding users to place their carriers behind their feet were displayed through designs on the downward escalators heading from the ground level to the basement.
In addition, the city plans to produce videos and posters containing the correct rules for transporting carriers on escalators and actively broadcast them through the city’s official social networking services (SNS) and video media within the Airport Railroad.
"We prepared this campaign to instill an image of a city that prioritizes safety among visitors from all over the world who visit Incheon," said Park Rok-sam, spokesperson for Incheon City. "Moving forward, we plan to continuously promote creative urban brand campaigns that elicit sympathy from citizens and enable two-way communication."
