The Gyeongbuk Culture & Tourism Corporation (President Kim Nam-il) has published the November issue of ‘Gyeongbuk Travel MVTI,’ titled "Somewhere Between Pages and Scenes," inviting travelers to explore destinations in Gyeongbuk featured across various dramas, films, and novels.
This November edition introduces eight special locations throughout the Gyeongbuk region where scenes from the screen and lines from books come vividly to life. These familiar yet novel spaces offer visitors a unique experience that transcends simple sightseeing, making them feel as though they have stepped directly into the roles of their favorite stories.
First, the newsletter highlights destinations that have left deep impressions through television and cinema. The Goryeong Kim Myeon General Historic Site, which served as the main filming location for government office scenes in the upcoming film The King and the Man depicting the life of the young King Danjong, blends quiet tile-roofed houses with old courtyards to recreate the exact atmosphere of the screen.
Bonghwa Yangwon Station, which inspired the film Miracle, is South Korea's first private-initiative railway station and its smallest train station. Built by local residents in a mountainous village where trains passed by without a station, it leaves a touching impression nestled between railway tracks and deep ravines.
Cheongdo Unmunsa Temple, where the protagonist Aesun performed 108 bows in the popular drama When Life Gives You Tangerines, is ideal for reflecting on the drama's lingering emotions amid late autumn tranquility. At Mungyeong Gaeun Open Set, a frequent backdrop for historical dramas, visitors can take a time-travel journey back to the Joseon Dynasty by wandering through traditional buildings, government offices, and village alleys.
Yecheon Choganjeong Pavilion, where the characters Ae-shin and Haman-daek sat blowing pinwheels in the hit drama Mr. Sunshine, is steeped in the legacy of Kwon Mun-hae, author of Daedong Unbugunok, Korea's first encyclopedia. The winding stream rushing over rugged rock formations and the dense pine forest create a picturesque, painting-like landscape.
Spaces where literary passages breathe to life also capture attention. At the Andong Kwon Jeong-saeng Fairy Tale World, housed in a former elementary school building preserving the lingering spirit of the late children's literature writer Kwon Jeong-saeng, and the nearby Mongsil Unni Village, visitors can encounter the warm passages that embraced fragile lives, such as Dog's Poo, Mother Partridge, and Mongsil Unni.
Cheongsong Kim Ju-yeong Gakju Street & Jinbo Market, the primary setting and hometown of author Kim Ju-yeong's epic historical novel Gakju, revives the turbulent lives of itinerant peddlers who wandered Korea's marketplaces 150 years ago along its weathered market paths and village lanes.
Finally, Yeongyang Dudul Village, the hometown and literary root of novelist Lee Mun-yeol, preserves family memories woven into the novel The Choice, which chronicles the life of the 13th-generation matriarch Jang Gye-hyang. Walking along its centuries-old traditional houses (gotaek) and quiet stone-wall paths evokes the illusion of stepping right into a page of the novel.
Kim Nam-il, President of the Gyeongbuk Culture & Tourism Corporation, stated, "Perhaps our own travels can also become a scene in someone's story. I hope visitors will come to Gyeongbuk this November—where the emotional resonance of books and screens comes alive—to write their own brilliant page."
