The National Folk Music Center, under the leadership of Director Kim Jung-hyun, has recently completed a major renovation of its performance hall lobby and experiential spaces, centered around the iconic Korean folktales "Chunhyangjeon" (Chunhyang) and "Heungbugga" (The Tale of Heungbu). The revamped facility introduces a range of interactive exhibits that blend traditional Korean music with cutting-edge technology, offering visitors a fresh and immersive experience.

The "Chunhyangmaru" exhibition hall features an interactive exhibit titled "Encountering Chunhyang," which provides an unprecedented level of immersion. Visitors can also explore the history of sound recordings and appreciate the depth of Korean traditional music through a digital table that allows them to listen to traditional records and instruments.

The grand theater, "Yewondang," now boasts a visitor-centric layout with a contemporary aesthetic. The "Heungbumaru" space is designed as a unique and diverse experiential area for families, while the semi-open seating area, "Nolbujip," offers a cozy retreat for young visitors.

A new "book cafe" combines reading with digital experiences, featuring a digital book kiosk that utilizes laser projectors. This multipurpose space offers both learning and entertainment. The "Ttaraek" outdoor area, themed around gardens and forests, provides a peaceful retreat for children and families.

An interactive photo zone themed around gourds and swallows recreates vivid scenes from "The Tale of Heungbu," allowing visitors to create lasting memories.

Yang Young-jin, a curator, stated, "This project focuses on providing visitors with new ways to experience traditional Korean music through the fusion of traditional music and modern technology. We aim to create a space where the public can resonate with Korean music. We will continue to make various efforts so that visitors can feel the charm of Korean music up close in the new year."
