CHUNGNAM PROVINCE – Chungnam Province announced on the 10th that it is pursuing a project to produce "emergency relief kits" to proactively prepare for disasters and enhance the safety of its citizens.
The relief kits, produced under the Disaster Relief Act and its enforcement decree, are items that minimize inconvenience for residents during frequent, unforeseen evacuation situations due to reinforced pre-emptive evacuations and support stable temporary housing.
The basic items include at least six necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels, blankets or throws, soap, and toilet paper. Each city and county is given the flexibility to customize the kits to reflect local characteristics and the needs of disaster victims.
The province plans to invest 270 million won from its disaster relief fund to produce 9,000 kits and provide them to cities and counties.
A provincial official stated, "As the risk of unpredictable disasters increases due to climate change, proactive preparedness is more important than anything else. We will do our best to not only facilitate evacuation during a disaster but also ensure a swift return to daily life."
