The Chungbuk Cultural Foundation (CEO Kim Kyung-sik) and the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre's 2026 second-half regular performance ‘Les Misérables’ will be staged at the Cheongju Arts Center Grand Theater from October 28 to 29.
‘Les Misérables’ focuses on grand-scale scenes fitting for a large theater and the ensemble of the actors. Including crowd scenes featuring numerous actors, the production implements the work's narrative on stage by adding songs and choreography to tension-filled scenes between characters.
The actors ahead of the performance are meticulously inspecting scene-by-scene blocking and transitions, coordinating their breathing so that acting, songs, and choreography can flow naturally. Particularly in scenes where multiple actors appear on stage simultaneously, they are focusing on tuning each other's movements and breath to enhance completeness.
For this performance, young theater artists active in the region are participating as guest actors alongside the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre actors. These young theater artists have the opportunity to experience the actual professional performance production field and learn actor-to-actor breath and ensemble while practicing and preparing performances alongside professional artists. It is also meaningful in that professional actors and aspiring theater artists meet within a single production to share each other's energy and complete a single stage.
Kim Nak-hyung, Artistic Director of the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre, said, "Since there are many scenes built together by numerous actors, the breath and ensemble among the actors are important," adding, "We are meticulously refining the work together with the actors so that each person's role can flow into a single stream."
He continued, "Especially as the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre actors and local theater major students create the stage together, they are becoming a fresh source of energy for one another," and added, "I hope the audience can directly experience the vivid acting and ensemble of the actors unfolding in the grand theater."
Meanwhile, ‘Les Misérables’ will run for a total of 2 performances, and ticket prices are 40,000 KRW for VIP seats and 30,000 KRW for R seats. Chungbuk residents can receive a 50% discount benefit, and the viewing age is 11 and older. Performance reservation and detailed information can be checked on the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre website and major ticketing platforms.
