On the 17th, Daejeon City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 8 merchant associations from the old downtown area for the successful promotion of the ‘2025 Daejeon 0시 Festival’ (Daejeon Yeongsi Festival), which will be held in August.

This agreement aims to enhance tourist satisfaction during the festival period by eradicating exorbitant pricing, practicing friendly customer service, and establishing a fair trade culture.

The ‘Daejeon 0시 Festival’ has been well-received for two consecutive years as a festival free of safety accidents, free of trash, and free of exorbitant prices. To revitalize the local commercial district with fair food prices and successfully hold the festival again this year, the city and the merchant associations have once again joined hands.

According to the agreement, the old downtown merchant associations will eliminate unfair practices by implementing price display systems and proper origin labeling during the festival period, and Daejeon City will actively support the merchant associations' smooth participation in the festival.

The 8 merchant associations participating in the agreement today included: ▲Jungang Market Revitalization Zone Merchant Association (Chairman Park Hwang-soon) ▲Yeokjeon Market Shop Street Merchant Association (Chairman Jung Guk-haeng) ▲Yeokjeon Underground Shopping Mall Merchant Association (Chairwoman Lee Jeong-suk) ▲Jungbu Dried Fish Alley-Type Shop Street Merchant Association (Chairman Gu Gyeong-mo) ▲Daejeon Yakryeongsi Council (Chairman Song Tae-yong) ▲Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Mall Merchant Association (Chairman Kim Jin-ho) ▲Daeheung-dong Shop Street Merchant Association of Culture and Arts Street (Chairman Jang Su-hyun) ▲Seonhwa Matgil Shop Street Merchant Association (Chairman Bok Young-han).

Yoo Deuk-won, Administrative Vice Mayor of Daejeon City, stated, "We are grateful to the old downtown merchant associations for their active cooperation in making this a friendly festival free of exorbitant prices." He added, "Daejeon City will do its best to ensure that the Daejeon 0시 Festival, now in its 3rd year, becomes a representative summer festival of Korea that provides tangible benefits to the local economy."

The city conducted hygiene training for merchants participating in the food zones during the festival and plans to strengthen hygiene and price management by operating a joint public-private inspection team in the future.

Furthermore, the merchant associations will cooperate in creating a festive atmosphere in various ways, including opening restrooms in stores near the festival venue, attaching festival promotional materials, and promoting their own customer events.

Meanwhile, the Daejeon 0시 Festival will be held for 9 days, from August 8th to 16th, with a 1km section of road from Daejeon Station to the former Chungnam Provincial Office controlled, taking place in Jungang-ro and the old downtown commercial area.
