Gyeongsangbuk-do signed a Business Agreement (MOU) for the "revitalization of the digital content and artificial intelligence (AI) industries" with TikTok Korea at the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government Office on Thursday, September 3.

With this agreement, Gyeongsangbuk-do has joined hands with TikTok, a global short-form platform with over 2 billion users, to launch a full-scale entry into the global market for the regional digital content industry.

This agreement holds even greater significance as it was built upon the success of a film festival that recorded its largest scale ever, with 3,403 entries submitted from 97 countries worldwide. The two organizations agreed to cooperate in four major areas: ▲ joint promotion of events and activities, ▲ exchange and cooperation in the fields of AI and digital content, ▲ support for promoting local businesses utilizing digital platforms, and ▲ cultivation of digital content and marketing professionals.

Through this initiative, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to establish a foundation for regional professional creators and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to expand into overseas markets via TikTok's global network. TikTok also intends to strengthen its role as a pathway connecting South Korea's outstanding AI-based content with global users.

Jung Jae-hoon, General Manager of TikTok Korea, stated, "Korean content within TikTok has already deeply embedded itself into the daily lives of people around the world. Through this agreement, we will actively support Gyeongsangbuk-do's creators, companies, and future talents so they can thrive on a broader global stage."

Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongsangbuk-do emphasized, "The participation of 97 countries around the world in this film festival is an achievement that demonstrates Gyeongsangbuk-do's competitiveness and potential to leap forward as a global hub for AI metaverse content. Cooperation with TikTok, which possesses global influence, will serve as a catalyst for Gyeongsangbuk-do's creative innovation talents to communicate with the world without spatial and temporal constraints."

Governor Lee added, "Going forward, we will utilize TikTok's platform across various fields, such as expanding Gyeongsangbuk-do's K-Food into the global market and revitalizing tourism, to produce tangible results."
