The 22-year-old Hwang Sun-woo, a prominent figure in Korean swimming, is drawing significant attention for his performance at the upcoming Singapore World Championships. He has already made history by securing a total of four medals across the last three World Championships, including one gold, two silvers, and one bronze. Currently, he is ranked 6th in the world with a time of 1:45.03, set at the National Sports Festival last October. Romania's Olympic medalist David Popovici recently set the season's best time of 1:43.64 at the U23 Championships. Luke Hobson of the USA follows with 1:43.73, and his compatriot Gabriel Jett, along with Australia's Edward Sommerville, are also strong contenders for the title.

However, there's good news for Hwang Sun-woo: Germany's Lukas Märtens, who recently set a new world record in the 400m freestyle, has decided not to compete in the 200m freestyle at this event. This could increase Hwang Sun-woo's chances of winning gold.
