Yangpyeong, South Korea – Yangpyeong County is set to embark on a project to transform the Yanggang Island area into a premier waterfront destination. The centerpiece of this initiative is the construction of a unique Y-shaped suspension bridge that will connect Yanggang Island, Tteodeureong Island, and the Mul-an-gae (Water Mist) Park.
The project, officially named the "Mul-an-gae Park Development Project," aims to enhance the connectivity of the three islands and create a scenic attraction for both locals and tourists. The Y-shaped bridge will replace the existing floating bridge, which has been plagued by maintenance issues due to debris accumulation and structural damage.
With an estimated budget of 9 billion KRW, the project has secured 6.8 billion KRW in funding from the Gyeonggi Provincial Government's regional development initiative. This substantial investment underscores the commitment to revitalizing the area and creating a landmark attraction.
The project gained momentum after Yangpyeong County officials, led by County Governor Jeon Jin-seon, visited the Y-shaped suspension bridge in Geochang County last year. Inspired by the success of that project, they sought to implement a similar concept in Yangpyeong.
Following thorough planning and collaboration with relevant agencies, including the Han River Basin Environmental Office, the county has obtained the necessary permits and approvals. Construction is scheduled to commence in March and is expected to be completed by March of the following year.
Upon completion, the Y-shaped suspension bridge will offer visitors panoramic views of the Han River's natural beauty and provide easy access to the three islands. The project also includes plans to develop walking trails and other amenities on Tteodeureong Island, which was previously inaccessible to the public.
County Governor Jeon Jin-seon expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Through the Mul-an-gae Park Development Project, we aim to strengthen the connection between Yanggang Island, Mul-an-gae Park, and Tteodeureong Island. By creating a park that harmonizes with the natural scenery of the Han River, we will provide a comfortable and refreshing space for our residents."
The revitalization of the Yanggang Island area is expected to not only enhance the quality of life for Yangpyeong residents but also attract more visitors to the region, boosting the local economy.
