Suwon, South Korea – Starbucks Korea's Valentine's Day promotion, offering a free pink reusable cup with the purchase of select beverages, has sparked a frenzy among customers.
On February 13th, long before the 2 PM event start time, a line of over ten people had already formed outside a Starbucks store in Paldal-gu, Suwon. A sign at the counter indicated that only 45 cups were available at this location. The promotion, which runs from February 13th to 19th, allows customers to purchase up to four eligible drinks per person.
The four promotional drinks include the Almond Cream Oat Latte, Hazelnut Cloud Mocha, Starbucks Strawberry Latte, and Caramel Macchiato. Each drink is served in a limited-edition pink reusable cup designed specifically for Valentine's Day. The unique design has made the cups highly desirable, with some even appearing on secondhand marketplaces like Danggeun Market for as much as 7,000 KRW within an hour of the event's start.
The limited quantity of cups led to a swift sell-out, with all 45 cups at the Suwon location being claimed within 22 minutes. Staff members were seen congratulating each other on the successful event. One customer, Ms. Lee, expressed her satisfaction with the two cups she managed to purchase, praising their cute design and color.
However, the rapid depletion of the cups left many customers disappointed. Mr. Yoon, who arrived at the store shortly after the event began, expressed his surprise at the quick sell-out and vowed to try again the next day.
Meanwhile, the two new Valentine's Day promotional drinks, the Almond Cream Oat Latte and the Hazelnut Cloud Mocha, are nearing a cumulative sales total of one million cups. According to a Starbucks representative, the drinks sold 100,000 cups on the first day alone and reached 900,000 cups within a week.
This Valentine's Day promotion has proven to be a major success for Starbucks Korea, driving significant sales and generating considerable buzz among consumers.
