LOS ANGELES – The harmonica ensemble of the LA Korean Town Senior & Community Center (hereinafter referred to as the Senior Center) is garnering attention for their consecutive moving performances at the pre-game events of the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs. Having received enthusiastic applause for their performance at an NHL playoff pre-game event last month, the Senior Center's harmonica ensemble once again presented a beautiful harmony on the 21st at Crypto.com Arena, a landmark in downtown LA.
Just before the start of the first game of the Western Conference First Round series between the LA Kings and the Edmonton Oilers at 7 PM that evening, the 14 harmonica players from the Senior Center performed a majestic and moving rendition of the U.S. national anthem in front of approximately 20,000 spectators filling the arena. As the performance began, the audience members rose in unison to sing along, and after the performance concluded, they responded with thunderous applause and enthusiastic cheers, expressing deep emotion.
This marks the second time that the Senior Center's harmonica ensemble has performed the U.S. national anthem at Crypto.com Arena at the invitation of the LA Kings organization. Previously, on March 23rd, they were also invited to the pre-game event of a match between the LA Kings and the Boston Bruins, where they showcased a beautiful performance of the U.S. national anthem and an exciting janggu (Korean traditional drum) performance, receiving an explosive response from the audience. Buoyed by the enthusiastic reception at that time, the LA Kings organization actively invited the Senior Center's harmonica ensemble once again for this performance, even providing a 32-seater large bus for their convenience.
A representative from the Senior Center commented, "The sight of Korean seniors widely promoting Korean culture at an NHL game was a deeply moving moment, where one could feel the grandeur of the U.S. national anthem, the potential of Korean seniors, and the beautiful harmony of inter-racial unity."
Furthermore, according to the Senior Center, the LA Kings organization has requested the harmonica ensemble to perform the U.S. national anthem again for the second game of the playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers on the 23rd, meaning they are scheduled to take the NHL stage for the third consecutive time.
The beautiful harmony of the LA Korean seniors at this NHL playoff stage is being evaluated as a meaningful moment that goes beyond a simple performance, elevating the status of Koreans in American society and contributing to cultural exchange. In particular, the passion and outstanding performance skills demonstrated by the elderly Koreans are delivering deep emotion and resonance to many, raising expectations for their future activities. The Senior Center's harmonica ensemble's consecutive appearances on the NHL stage are instilling great pride in the local community and creating a beautiful scene of harmony among people from diverse cultural backgrounds, delivering profound emotion.
