A shocking incident has occurred in the Philippines. A 55-year-old Korean man, who had been active as a YouTuber in the Philippines, was arrested by local investigative authorities on charges of cohabiting with, impregnating, and causing the birth of a child with a 14-year-old minor, causing a significant stir. The possibility of life imprisonment upon conviction is also being raised, sounding an alarm in Korean society.

According to a JTBC "Incident Ban-jang" report on July 7, the Philippine National Coordination Center on Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Sexual Abuse Materials (NCC-OSAEC-CSAEM) arrested Korean YouTuber Mr. Jung on charges of child sexual exploitation.

Mr. Jung had been active in Mindanao, southern Philippines, creating content centered around operating a "study center." He had been receiving donations from viewers under the pretext of supporting education, medical expenses, and house repairs for impoverished children. While he appeared to be a YouTuber engaging in charitable activities, a shocking crime of child sexual exploitation was hidden beneath the surface.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Jung cohabited and had sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl who attended his study center, leading to her pregnancy and childbirth. Even more shocking is the fact that the girl became pregnant at the tender age of 13 and gave birth prematurely at 29 weeks. This constitutes child sexual exploitation and abuse, and is considered a crime that severely violates the human rights and health of the victimized child.

Recently, Mr. Jung acknowledged the child as his own during a YouTube live broadcast, stating, "I thought I would live without children, but a child was born. I believe there's a reason for being born as a seven-month premature baby. It became the reason for me to settle down here. It's truly a 'miracle baby'." He also claimed, "It's my wrong action. Her mother is too young, but despite that, I didn't run away because I have to take responsibility. I have no intention of running away. I will try to resolve this somehow here," but critics have denounced these as mere excuses to evade legal responsibility.

Philippine authorities arrested Mr. Jung on June 11 and he is currently in custody undergoing investigation. The Philippines applies very strict laws against child sexual exploitation and abuse crimes, and tends to impose heavier penalties, especially for such crimes committed by foreigners. Under Philippine criminal law, sexual relations with a minor can be considered child sexual abuse or rape regardless of consent, and child sexual exploitation is punished even more severely. Local media reports indicate that upon conviction, Mr. Jung is highly likely to face life imprisonment under Philippine law.

This incident highlights the moral hazard of Koreans active overseas and once again underscores the importance of international child rights protection. This case, where a minor was sexually exploited under the guise of charitable activities funded by donations, has caused great shock to many, and there are growing calls for thorough investigation and punishment to prevent recurrence.
