IKSAN, Jeollabuk-do — Harim Group, one of South Korea's leading food conglomerates, is solidifying its presence in the Iksan region with a new, large-scale investment. On Monday, Iksan City announced that Harim Foods will build a state-of-the-art smart factory in the National Food Cluster, an investment valued at ₩200 billion. The new facility is expected to be a significant boost to the local economy, creating an estimated 230 new jobs.

The project is the latest step in Harim Group's strategy to establish an integrated food production hub in the area. Located on a sprawling 54,000 square meter site, the factory is scheduled for completion by January 2027. This marks the third production facility for a Harim affiliate in Iksan, adding to the company's long-standing presence since its first chicken processing plant was established in 1991.

A key feature of the new plant will be its advanced technology. Harim Foods plans to incorporate a digital artificial intelligence (AI) based smart operation system to maximize production efficiency and quality control. The factory will produce a wide range of products, including classic processed meats like ham and sausage, as well as high-demand items like Home Meal Replacements (HMRs), patties, and semi-cooked foods, catering to evolving consumer preferences.

The decision to build the new factory follows Harim Foods' participation in the 'Iksan-type Job' initiative, a government-led program designed to promote regional investment and job creation. This collaborative approach, which involved consensus among labor unions, residents, and government officials, highlights the project's focus on community benefit.

According to Jeon Won-bae, CEO of Harim Foods, the new factory will be a synergy of the company's deep-rooted expertise and local talent. "This new plant is the starting point for creating new value by combining our 40 years of meat processing technology with the skills of local residents," Jeon stated. "We are committed to making a tangible contribution to the local economy and look forward to a successful partnership with the community."
