The Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA) has included parent education in its Korean language school training program, reflecting suggestions from the Korean community in Osaka, Japan.

The OKA announced that it co-hosted the "2026 Japan Kansai Region Korean Language School Educational Community Capacity Building Training" with the Kansai Regional Council of Korean Schools in Japan from October 16 to 18 in Osaka, Japan.

The training was attended by 95 participants, including principals, teachers, and parents from 30 Korean language schools in the Kansai and other western regions of Japan. In particular, reflecting requests for parent education and discussion sessions raised during the comprehensive survey of overseas Korean community grievances conducted by the OKA this year, parents were also allowed to participate in the training. Participants examined the role of families in Korean language school education and discussed ways to cooperate between schools and homes.

The training covered topics such as Korean language school classes utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), Korean history teaching methods for Zainichi Koreans, improvement of the operation of Korean schools and regional councils, and home-linked child education. The OKA also held briefing sessions and meetings on Korean school support projects to listen to the operational difficulties of local schools and discuss necessary support measures.

Lee Eun-sook, President of the Kansai Regional Council of Korean Schools in Japan, stated, "Through this training, which reflected the local circumstances of Korean schools in Japan, the educational community was able to grow together," adding, "We will faithfully continue to play a role connecting schools, homes, and the Korean community."

Kim Kyung-hyup, Commissioner of the Overseas Koreans Agency, said in a video congratulatory message, "I hope this will be a time for teachers and parents to gather in one place and ponder ways to develop the education of the next-generation compatriots," and added, "We will continuously listen to the voices from the field and expand necessary support for Korean schools."

Meanwhile, the OKA held a Korean language school training session in Almaty, Kazakhstan, last August, and plans to conduct training for the educational community of Korean schools in the Kanto region in Tokyo, Japan, from November 27 to 29.
