Surf City, El Salvador – El Salvador has solidified its position as a world-class surfing destination with a new strategic partnership with the International Surfing Association (ISA). The agreement, a first of its kind for the ISA, will see El Salvador host six major international surfing events over the next three years, with the potential for more in the future.

The partnership kicks off in 2025 with the World Longboard Surfing Championship (WLSC), scheduled for April 18-24, followed by the World Surfing Games (WSG) from September 5-14.

“The WLSC will continue for each of the three years, while the WSG will alternate with the World Junior Surfing Championship in 2026. El Salvador also has the option to host the World Masters Surfing Championship during the partnership period, following the successful edition of the event last year,” the ISA detailed in a statement.

The ISA also acknowledged the growth and development of El Salvador's surfing community, highlighting the significant boost the sport has received under the administration of President Nayib Bukele.

“Under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, El Salvador has significantly strengthened its position as a premier surfing destination, attracting surfers from around the world to visit, live, and invest while enjoying its world-class waves,” the statement reads.

Tourism Minister Morena Valdez noted the strong working relationship and friendship built with the ISA over the years, which has helped position the country's world-class waves.

"We have worked very closely with President Bukele, Minister Valdez, and the rest of the Salvadoran government, as well as the incredible people of El Salvador for many years. I am very happy that our relationship will continue for many more years to come," said ISA President Fernando Aguerre.

To date, El Salvador has hosted nine ISA events, bringing together the world's best surfers.

This partnership is expected to further boost El Salvador's tourism industry, attracting surfers and surf enthusiasts from around the globe. The country's commitment to developing its surfing infrastructure and hosting world-class events has positioned it as a major player in the global surfing scene.
