The Jeonbuk State Cultural and Tourism Foundation (led by CEO Lee Kyung-yoon) announced that the creative dance performance 'Full Moon' (Manwol), produced by the Lee Hae-won Dance Company Aum (led by Director Lee Hae-won) and selected for the 2026 Stage Production Support Project, will be staged on September 18 at 7:30 PM at the Yeonji Hall of the Jeonbuk Sori Arts Center.
Fostering Local Artistic Excellence
The Stage Production Support Project is designed to strengthen the creative capabilities and growth of local artists and art organizations while discovering outstanding performance works. By supporting the creation and presentation of diverse works—ranging from brand-new premieres to revivals and creative reinterpretations—the foundation expands cultural and artistic enjoyment opportunities for local residents. This year, a total of 18 organizations were selected to showcase their unique productions to audiences.
Reinterpreting Traditional Circles into Contemporary Movement
'Full Moon' is a contemporary Korean dance production that takes the traditional Korean circle dance Ganggangsullae as its core motif to explore the themes of life's cycles, human relationships, and the deep meaning of encounters. Starting from the primordial and symbolic circular movements, the choreography uses expanding, contracting, and scattering formation changes to visualize the rugged trajectories of human life and the ultimate process of returning to one another's embrace to form a "rounded perfection."
The performance is structured into nine distinct scenes, guiding the audience through a profound narrative:
The Cycle of Life
Waning and Waxing Anew
From Condensation to Flow
Toward the Ultimate Peak
The Circle of Love
Stepping on Me to Uplift You
Solid Human Bonds
An Endless Connection
A Rounded Farewell
Instead of focusing heavily on individual dancer solos, the production highlights the clean simplicity, unity, and harmony created by group formations and dynamic spatial flows. The shifting structures, synchronized dancer movements, and sophisticated stage arts are tightly integrated scene by scene to complete a cohesive theatrical masterpiece.
A Legacy of Exploring New Horizons in Korean Dance
Founded in 2006, the Lee Hae-won Dance Company Aum bridges a wide spectrum of genres, from creative dance and modern Korean dance (Shin-muyong) to traditional dances. Grounded in the foundational breathing techniques of traditional Korean dance, the company constantly explores free artistic creation and diverse physical movements to discover new possibilities and horizons for Korean dance vocabulary.
Artistic Director Lee Hae-won shared her thoughts on the production, stating, "Just like the full moon that wanes only to wax full once again—much like the circular formation of Ganggangsullae—the completion of life is not a static stopping point, but an ongoing process of continuous connection. I hope today's stage does not merely end as a singular completion, but continues as another meaningful relationship with our audience."
CEO Lee Kyung-yoon added, "It is deeply meaningful to see our culture and traditions meet the creative visions of local artists to manifest into fresh, modern works. We will continue to support regional artists so that their creative activities can expand onto diverse stages and connect more closely with local residents."
