[Global Economic Times] The Post Office of the Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 21st that the number of countries that can send kimchi through the Post Office International Mail (EMS) will increase from 4 to 10 countries.
Kimchi could only be sent via post office EMS to four countries: the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan, but starting on the 22nd, six more countries will be added: China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Singapore.
Overseas kimchi shipments were suspended from November 2020 due to air transport delays due to COVID-19, but resumed in the United States and Japan in November last year.
According to the Postal Service, due to the nature of air transportation, which restricts or prohibits the transportation of potentially explosive substances, it is essential to deliver kimchi, a fermented food, in accordance with the established packaging method.
When sending kimchi overseas via EMS, the Korea Post recommends that kimchi be packaged in plastic, filled with about 70% of the metal can, and the lid completely sealed.
Jo Hae-geun, head of the Korea Post, said, "As the number of countries where kimchi can be shipped has expanded, more people living overseas will be able to experience a taste of their hometown. We will do our best to increase the number of countries where kimchi can be delivered through discussions with airlines in the future." said.
