Sacheon, South Korea – In response to a growing number of single-person households, Sacheon City has announced a comprehensive plan to tackle social isolation and prevent deaths caused by loneliness. The initiative, titled "Happy Sacheon: A City Without Isolation," aims to create a supportive community for all residents.
Rising Trend of Single-Person Households

Collaborating with utility companies and postal services to detect signs of isolation through usage patterns and delivery observations.
Utilizing AI-powered companion robots for middle-aged and elderly individuals living alone.
Community Support and Engagement:Recruiting and training local volunteers ("Our Neighborhood Chiefs") to conduct regular check-ins and provide companionship.
Organizing community events and activities to foster social connections.
Improved Living Conditions:Providing cleaning, organization, and minor home repair services for vulnerable households.
Offering financial assistance and resources for those in need.
Mental Health Support:Expanding access to mental health services and counseling.
Promoting mental health awareness and education.
Grief and Bereavement Support:Providing counseling and support groups for individuals who have experienced loss.
Organizing memorial events to honor those who have died alone.
Public Awareness Campaigns:Launching campaigns to raise awareness about social isolation and its impact.
Encouraging community members to reach out to those who may be isolated.
A Proactive Approach
Sacheon City's initiative is notable for its proactive and multifaceted approach. By combining early detection, community engagement, and practical support, the city aims to create a safety net for vulnerable residents and prevent the tragedy of одиночество.
Looking Ahead
The city plans to implement the various projects throughout the year, with ongoing evaluation and adjustments as needed. Sacheon's efforts serve as a model for other communities grappling with the challenges of одиночество in an increasingly individualistic society.
